The Boland Cavaliers had to dig deep to secure a last-minute, bonus-point win against the Eastern Province Elephants, in a Supersport Rugby Challenge match that took place at the King Edward Sports grounds in Montagu on Saturday.

The Cavaliers grinded out a last-minute 40-37 victory, with flanker Kenan Cronje’s 80th minute try securing the win for his team.

Cavaliers head coach Randall Modiba says that even though his team left it late, he was pleased with their efforts throughout the match.

“It was a tough encounter against an inspiring EP team, who has improved a lot since the first week of the competition.

“Our guys showed massive character by playing for 80 minutes to secure the 5 points. We are blessed to still be on track with our objectives,” says Modiba.

“One of our major objectives was achieved when we gave exposure to another club player in this match, which we believe fulfils one of the major purposes of this competition”.

Juandre Joseph (fullback) made his professional debut for Boland when he came on as a replacement in the 57th minute of the match. Joseph’s debut came just one week after Emile Booysen (flank) of Hillcrest United made his debut against SWD in Wellington. Booysen also featured as a reserve in the match against EP.

Boland will travel to East London this coming weekend to take on the Border Bulldogs. The match is scheduled to take place on Friday 25 May at the BCM Stadium.
