Border hunt third consecutive Women’s Interprovincial title
Border will be hunting their third successive Women’s Interprovincial title on Saturday when they line up against the Blue Bulls in the final of the A Section in the SARU Women’s Interprovincial Competition at home at the BCM stadium in East London.
The hosts advanced to the final unbeaten and won four of their five round-robin matches with bonus points, which earned them their third home final in a row.
The Blue Bulls, meanwhile, suffered only one defeat in the competition so far, and that was against Border, with the team going down 38-10 in East London.
The teams also met in last year’s final at the BCM Stadium and the Pretoria side went down 32-14.
Border will enter the match with confidence as they have not lost a game in the last two seasons and they will have the luxury of home ground advantage. But the Blue Bulls will be determined to dethrone the hosts after advancing to their second final in as many seasons. They will also bank on the fact that they know what to expect from the hosts.
With Border boasting an impressive 29 tries in their five league matches compared to only 13 by the Blue Bulls, the visitors are expected to pay special attention to their defence going into the clash. That said, they will take comfort from the fact that they have only conceded four more tries than Border up to now in the competition.
In the B Section final Free State will go up against the Leopards after both teams advanced through the pool stages unbeaten and with a full house of points after securing bonus points in all their matches. This final will serve as a curtain-raiser to the A Section final.
