A highly competitive team has been selected to represent Border at the Coca Cola Craven Week this year, with the majority of the players, 11 in total coming from the well respected Selborne side. Dale and Queens College’s also have a strong presence within the side Hudson Park and Grens Hoerskool fill the remaining places.
It will be worth the rugby supporter’s while to get to watch Border and Selborne’s burly prop, Ryan Germishuys who was a recent recipient of a Sharks bursary at the Kearsney Festival. But it is not only the prop to keep a look out for, Dale’s dangerous centre Sphomulele Msutwana who also received a Shark’s bursary at the same festival will be looking too dazzle the crowds and selectors with his flair .
Josh Stander of Queens College has become a talking point amongst local school derby supporters and has been touted to be a front runner for the SA Schools flyhalf position. This is a player to watch, and if all goes well could have a wonderful rugby career ahead of him. Another Queenian whose name has been on everybody’s lips recently is eighth man Johan “Spies” Meyer.
A versatile player who missed on final selection is Selborne’s Geoff Lundersted who I think has more to offer in terms of utility and could be missed on the bench. He might not be the biggest guy around but is of similar build to Pieter Rossouw and Henry Honiball, he has a natural ability to step off both feet and his breathtaking pace has held the spectators in awe and definitely makes him a player to watch for!
Border has the potential to make a huge impression at Craven Week and if all goes well hopefully they will live up to local expectations.
