Defending Women’s Interprovincial champions, Border, Western Province and the Blue Bulls continued to flex their muscles in the SARU women’s Interprovincial competition this past weekend as they registered their second round of victories in as many matches.

Border were in fine form against KwaZulu-Natal in Durban, which earned them a convincing 31-5 victory, while Western Province delivered a solid performance to defeat SWD 20-15 at Outeniqua Park in George.

In the other Section A clash, the Blue Bulls defeated Eastern Province 22-15 in Port Elizabeth.

In the B Section, the Limpopo Blue Bulls thumped the Valke 72-7, which marked the biggest victory of the weekend, while Boland smashed the Griffons 56-15, the Leopards defeated the Pumas 32-5, and the Free State outplayed Griquas 34-7.

The first half between Border and KwaZulu-Natal proved to be a tight battle, with Border scoring two tries to take a 12-0 lead. The team, however, hit their straps in the second half and added three tries to their tally, which secured captain and flyhalf Zintle Mpupa her hat-trick. In return KwaZulu-Natal were only able to cross the line once as they battled to penetrate the solid Border defence, resulting in them having to settle for a disappointing 31-5 defeat. The defeat for the Durban side marked their second in the competition.

Western Province also delivered a solid performance on attack and defence to outscore SWD four tries to one for their 20-5 victory. The Cape side took a 10-0 lead before the break after crossing the tryline twice, and they added two more after the break. Unfortunately their place-kicking let them down, which cost them a handful of extra points.

At the University of Limpopo, meanwhile, the Limpopo Blue Bulls ran riot on attack against the Valke as they built up a morale-boosting 38-0 lead at the break. They continued to stamp their authority in the second half and completed the match with a memorable 12 tries for their 72-7 victory.
