Border, WP take YTC honours in Pacaltsdorp
The Border Under-18 and Western Province Under-16 teams from SA Rugby’s Women’s Youth Training Centres (YTC) took top honours on Sunday in their annual tournament in a strong sign of the talent coming through the ranks at the provincial unions.
The Border U18 team overpowered Eastern Province 34-5 in the final match after defeating arch-rivals Western Province 14-5 in the second round of league matches earlier in the day. This followed on an impressive 46-0 victory against SWD in the opening round on Saturday.
The Western Province U16 team, meanwhile, worked their way to a 17-0 victory against Border in their final match, after defeating Griquas 22-14 in their second round-robin match in the morning. Similarly to the Border U18 team, they also made a strong statement from their first match as they cruised to a 58-0 victory against Eastern Province.
In the other U18 round-robin matches on Sunday, Eastern Province outplayed Griquas 30-0, the Blue Bulls pipped SWD 21-17, while KZN and the Limpopo Blue Bulls registered a 15-15 draw.
In the U16 section, meanwhile, Border defeated the Blue Bulls 25-0, SWD beat Eastern Province 31-10 and the Limpopo Blue Bulls registered a narrow 5-0 win against KZN.
