BUILDCORP NRC – WEEK 1: CANBERRA VIKINGS V PERTH SPIRIT
The Perth Spirit will take on the Canberra Vikings in their inaugural match of the Buildcorp National Rugby Championship this Saturday in Canberra.
Sixteen Western Australian club rugby players – outside of those that represented the Western Force in 2014 – will take the field with eight of the nine Pindan Premier Grade clubs represented.
Cottesloe and former England Under 20 prop, Alec Hepburn, will pack down for the Spirit alongside the Western Force pairing of Heath Tessmann and Oliver Hoskins while Corey Thomas (UWA), Kane Koteka (Wests Scarborough) and Alex Rovira (Associates) will make up the Perth back row.
Western Force lock, Rory Walton (Wests Scarborough) will captain the side while Western Force and Associates teammates Justin Turner and Zack Holmes will combine in the halves. In the backline, 2014 Western Force debutants, Luke Burton (UWA) and Dillyn Leyds (Palmyra) will start at inside centre and fullback respectively
The Vikings have included Wallabies Christian Lealiifano at inside centre and Jesse Mogg at fullback.
In the forward pack, Brumbies twins JP and Ruan Smith have been named in the front row while it will be an all-Super Rugby back row with Jordan Smiler (blindside flanker), Jarrad Butler (openside flanker) and Captain Fotu Auelua (No. 8).
