Bulls make 2 changes for Lions game
Bulls ace scrumhalf Fourie du Preez will be on the bench for Saturday’s Super 14 match against the Lions at Loftus Versfeld.
Du Preez, who has a shoulder niggle, swaps places with fellow Springbok Heini Adams who comes off the bench in one of two changes to the Bulls starting line-up that lost 19-12 to the Reds in Brisbane last weekend.
Jaco Pretorius, who is fit after sitting out the bulk of the Super 14 competition because of two injuries, will return at outside centre in place of Stephan Dippenaar in the other change to the starting line-up, which is also the only change to the match-22.
Bulls coach Frans Ludeke said he kept the squad together as much as possible as he did not want to lose continuity – but he may well be tempted to do so next weekend when hard man Bakkies Botha will be fit for action after missing all the 2010 matches. The Bulls will play the Sharks at Loftus next weekend.
The Bulls will have their traditional captain’s run on Friday on the Loftus B-field. This follows the discussion between the chairman of the parliamentary portfolio committee on sport, Butana Komphela, and the chief executive of the Blue Bulls Company, Barend van Graan, on Tuesday.
Van Graan, with Free State Rugby Union president Harold Verster and the president of the SA Rugby Union, Oregan Hoskins, appeared before the portfolio committee because of Komphela’s concerns about the state of the two unions’ rugby pitches for the upcoming World Cup.
Komphela was apparently not aware of the contract between the two rugby unions and the World Cup Local Organising Committee (LOC) that their fields would be released to the LOC on May 20.
