Former Canterbury and Crusader halfback Scott Hansen has been appointed to the role of Canterbury Assistant Backs Coach for the 2013 ITM Cup campaign. Hansen’s appointment follows the recent promotion of former All Black Scott Robertson from Assistant Coach to Head Coach and the appointment of Jason Holland as Assistant Coach for the Canterbury team.

Hansen is a born and bred Cantabrian. Having played for various junior New Zealand sides he went on to play for Canterbury and Crusaders. In 2004 he hung up his playing boots and has been coaching domestic and provincial sides ever since. He is currently the Head Coach at Linwood Rugby Club and was Assistant Coach for the recent Crusaders Knights campaign.

Canterbury Rugby Football Union CEO Hamish Riach said Hansen’s appointment would be an asset to the Canterbury coaching team.  “Scott’s appointment completes the coaching mix for the Canterbury team. There is an intense three months of Rugby ahead in the ITM Cup and we now have the coaching staff in place to ensure the best possible chance of defending our title.”

“We are thrilled that Scott’s positive influence and experience will help shape the 2013 Canterbury side in his new role as Assistant Backs Coach,” Riach said.

Canterbury Head Coach Scott Robertson said he is looking forward to working with Hansen over the coming season. “Scott has a great work ethic and brings substantial attention to detail to the role. His acute knowledge of the players will be of great value to us in growing their games both individually and as a team’ says Robertson.

Hansen will join Robertson and assistant coach Jason Holland on 10th June to start preparing the five times champions for the upcoming ITM Cup season which kicks off on 16 August.

“I am proud to be joining Canterbury Rugby’s coaching structure and delighted to be working alongside Scott and Jason. As a former Canterbury player I care passionately about our union, our players continued development and standard of performance.  It’s an exciting time and I’m looking forward to the challenges ahead” says Hansen.
