The University of Free State (Kovsies) went on to break many hearts at last year’s Varsity 7s Rugby tournament, stealing the title away from Maties, who have won the title twice before. This year, the tournament is set to take place at Villager Rugby Club, Cape Town from 30 April to 2 May, and it promises to bring you an entertaining brand of Sevens rugby, to be enjoyed by both fans and players.

Ten universities from across the country will compete at this year’s tournament. They are: University of the Free State (Kovsies), University of Stellenbosch (Maties), NMMU (Madibaz), NWU-Pukke, UP-Tuks, UCT, University of Fort Hare, University of Johannesburg, University of the Western Cape and Walter Sisulu University.

“We want to deliver a quality atmosphere for everyone in attendance,” said Duitser Bosman, CEO of Varsity Sports. “This will be the third instalment of Varsity 7s rugby, and we urge fans to come out and support their teams by dressing up, and enjoying a weekend of action-packed running rugby, and a great party atmosphere.”

Spectators can expect an array of activities at this year’s Varsity 7s Rugby, from the Steers Chill Zone, to live music and entertainment, with a big screen and some amazing giveaways from sponsors, FNB, Legit, Cell C, Samsung and Steers.

Immediately after an intense Varsity Cup season, the Sevens tournament could feature some of the most talented and speedy Varsity Cup players of 2016, in what should be a rugby festival with tries aplenty.

Tickets to the meeting are currently available via the Varsity Sports App in the Google Play and App Store at R10. With every ticket purchased through the App, visitors will receive a free beer or soft drink at the venue.
