The Crusaders will face the Sharks without All Blacks pivot Dan Carter who has returned to New Zealand on paternity leave.

According to Fairfax Media, Carter will miss the second match of the Christchurch-based franchise’s tour to South Africa to await the birth of his second child.

19-year-old midfield back Nathanial Apa has been called up to the Crusaders’ squad as Carter’s replacement.

The Crusaders play the Sharks in Durban on Saturday afternoon (15:00 local time) before returning to New Zealand for a local derby against the Highlanders the following week.
