CAVALIERS MUST PLAY FULL 80 MINUTES AGAINST KINGS

If there is one thing the Regent Boland Cavaliers would want to replicate in their clash against the Eastern Province Kings this coming Friday, it would be their first-half display against the Vodacom Cup log leaders, the Cell C Sharks XV, this past Saturday at the Ceres Sports Grounds.

The first 16 minutes was especially spectacular, with the Cavaliers managing to score 13 unanswered points against the Sharks, which turned into a 20-15 lead for the home side after 40 minutes. Unfortunately the second half was less about the Cavaliers and all about the Sharks, who eventually secured a 27-43 victory, to remain undefeated in this year’s competition.

Boland’s game plan against Eastern Province at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Friday night should be simple, namely to do what they did in the first quarter of the match against the Sharks, but to do that for the full 80 minutes against the Kings.

With EP also coming off a loss against the SWD Eagles last weekend (23-21), both teams will be looking to right their wrongs on Friday, which should lead to an epic battle.

Cavaliers Head Coach Abe Davids included the promising young flanker Chaney Willemse, a product of the SARU BRU Rugby Academy, in his starting line-up for the first time. The 21-year old flanker made his debut for the Cavaliers three weeks ago against the Tusker Simba XV.

Junaid Arendse, a Tygerberg Rugby Club player and former Western Province Amateur representative, will start at fullback in place of the injured Eric Zana.

SP Wessels (Prop; SARU BRU Rugby Academy and Boland U.21 in 2013) and Harlon Klaasen (Utility Back; Boland Amateur in 2013 and SARU BRU Rugby Academy in 2014) will also debut for the Cavaliers from the replacements bench.

The match will be broadcasted live on Super Sport One from 18:50 (Kick-off at 19:10).
