Cell C Shark vs Vodacom Bulls cancelled
The Carling Currie Cup match between the Cell C Sharks and Vodacom Bulls, scheduled to be played in Durban on Wednesday evening has been cancelled due to safety concerns.
SA Rugby today confirmed that the much-anticipated clash between the Cell C Sharks and Vodacom Bulls, that would have been played in Durban on Wednesday evening at 19h00, has been cancelled dues to safety concerns.
Edgar Rathbone CEO of the Blue Bulls Company explained further, “We have had extensive chats with the guys at the Sharks and SARugby regarding the fixture, and we all agreed that the cancellation would be safter and better, not only for us in the rugby industry, but also for emergency personal in KZN. Police and security companies together with other emergency services have their hands full at the moment, and we believe that last thing they need is to worry about a rugby match.”
“We fully understand the pressure on the Sharks at the moment having three of their last home games cancelled, so we have agreed to play the return leg of this fixture, which was scheduled to take place in Pretoria on 6 August, in Durban.”
The Cell C Sharks have launched another amazing fund-raising campaign with which they aim to make a massive difference to the effected communities around their region. The Vodacom Bulls will be pledging an amount of R100 000 to the fund.
Rathbone called on the rugby community to get behind the cause, “We understand that this contribution is merely a drop in the ocean, but we sincerely hope that it makes a difference. We’d like to call upon our fans and the rugby community in general to support this initiative.”
