Cheetahs injuries force changes
The Vodacom Cheetahs have been forced to make a few changes after injuries to key players.
Skipper Badenhorst and Philip van der Walt earn starting places while Corné Uys returns at wing for the Cheetahs’ clash against the Force.
Hooker Badenhorst will earn his first start of the year this Saturday in Bloemfontein after playing mostly in the Vodacom Cup this season. This sees Ryno Barnes demoted to the wood.
Van der Walt will make his debut Super Rugby start at No 8 in place of the injured Frans Viljoen (arm). Tighthead prop WP Nel recovered from his foot strain and retains his starting place. Kobus Calldo falls out of the match 22 as a result.
Uys, who missed the Cheetahs’ win over the Blues last weekend because of damaged rib cartilages, replaces injured wing Jongi Nokwe (broken jaw). Uys normally plays centre but is preferred at wing ahead of Danwel Demas.
Cheetahs – 15 Hennie Daniller, 14 Bjorn Basson, 13 Robert Ebersohn, 12 Meyer Bosman, 11 Corné Uys, 10 Naas Olivier, 9 Sarel Pretorius, 8 Philip van der Walt, 7 Juan Smith (captain), 6 Hendro Scholtz, 5 Barend Pieterse, 4 Izak van der Westhuizen, 3 WP Nel, 2 Skipper Badenhorst, 1 Wian du Preez.
