The Vodacom Cheetahs will play the second placed Vodacom Western Province tonight at Newlands knowing that they desperately need to win. This will be no easy task considering that the men from Bloem last won at Newlands in 2005.

Even though the Province side went down to the Sharks last weekend, they will be confident that they can pull of a win against the Cheetahs.Their spirits will be lifted further by the return of 2 Springboks in Francois Louw and Gio Aplon.Louw will be playing on flank, where he forms a lethal combination with 8th man Duane Vermeulen.  “Appels” as Aplon is affectionately known will start the game on the right wing, with Conrad Jantjies recent good form securing himself the fullback spot.

The Cheetahs are in Cape Town on the back of a resounding 57-0 win over the Leopards, giving them some much needed confidence. With the likes of Coenie  Oosthuizen,Adriaan Strauss and Ashley Johnson playing great rugby up front the Cheetahs backs will see enough ball to test the much vaunted province defence. The Province defence has thus far conceeded the fewest tries in this year’s competition, and even though the Cheetahs attack have been lacking in some matches, they have scored the third most tries thus far.

Both sides really need a victory, for Province it is to start cementing a possible home semifinal and for the Cheetahs it is to fight their way back in to the top four.Games between these sides are usually tightly contested and tonight should be no different. The men from Cape Town should have a bit of a psychological edge having won the first round encounter in Bloemfontein. The Cheetahs will have other ideas though and a victory tonight will surely set up another semifinal for them this year.
