CLEMEN LEWIS LEADS CAVALIERS CHARGE AGAINST BORDER BULLDOGS
VETERAN Hooker Clemen Lewis will lead the Boland Cavaliers onto the field on Friday when they face the Border Bulldogs in a must-win Absa Currie Cup First Division encounter in Wellington.
With 120-caps behind his name, the reliable Lewis takes over the captains armband from Flanker Franzel September who sustained a knee injury in Boland’s bonus point victory over the Valke this past Saturday.
Three changes have been made to the Run-on XV for Friday’s match. All three changes were forced due to injury.
Ashton Constant will start at Tighthead prop in place of Martin Dreyer (broken arm), with Dumisane Meslane slotting in at Flank in place of the injured Ryno Coetzee (knee injury). September’s injury makes way for Victor Kruger to return to lock, with Yves Bashiya, who performed well at lock against the Valke, shifting to Blind Side Flank.
The Boland Cavaliers still has an outside chance of qualifying for the Absa Currie Cup First Division Semi-Finals, but will have to rely on the results of other First Division matches also taking place this coming weekend. Both the Valke and SWD Eagles have 25 Log points, with Boland currently on 20 Log points. Boland’s only chances of qualifying for the Play-Offs depend on the outcome of the Valke vs Leopards and the SWD Eagles vs Griffons matches this weekend. The Leopards and Griffons have already secured the top two positions on the Log.
The Boland Cavaliers vs Border Bulldogs match takes place at the Boland Stadium in Wellington and will be broadcast on SuperSport at 16:00.
In the Absa Currie Cup B-Division, Boland’s u.19 and u.21 sides will face the Limpopo Blue Bulls u.19’s (at 12:15) and Limpopo Blue Bulls u.21’s (14:00) sides respectively.
