Club Mykonos wins SA Fish Industries tournament
Club Mykonos on Saturday won the South African Fish Industries Tournament in style after they cruised to a 22-0 victory against Elandsbaai in the Cup Final at the Smit Sports Grounds in Velddrif.
Cerebos A and Sea Pride, meanwhile, shared the Plate trophy after the teams finished the Plate Final tried at 12-12, while I & J won the Bowl Final by pipping Gansbaai 15-13.
Club Mykonos opened up their campaign on Friday with a 24-5 victory against Elandsbaai B and then defeated Amawandle 31-8 to book their place in the Cup Quarterfinal on Saturday.
They opened up the second day’s play with a 12-6 victory against Sea Pride and then registered a narrow 6-3 victory against West Point in the Cup Semi-final to book their place in the final.
Elandsbaai A also performed well throughout the tournament and registered victories against Lucky Star (28-17), Gansbaai (28-8), Cerebos A (14-10) and Sea Harvest (12-10) to advance to the Cup Final.
In the Final Club Mykonos used their chances well and built up a confidence-boosting 12-0 lead at the break. They continued this fine form in the second half, which earned them four tries in total compliments of Shavin Papier (2), Randall Hefka and Steward April. Elandsbaai, meanwhile, were unable to score a single point in the match.
In the Plate Final Cerebos A and Sea Pride each scored two tries and converted one, which forced them to settle for the 12-12 draw.
