Crusaders Knights season to kick off against Highlanders Development team
The Crusaders Knights will front a strong team when they open their season in Pleasant Point tomorrow afternoon. Eight members of the current Crusaders squad or wider training group are included in the team to face the Highlanders Development team.
Prop Alex Hodgman and centre Nathanial Apa both join the team straight off their debut match for the Crusaders last weekend. They will be joined in the starting line-up by Crusaders teammates Ged Robinson, Jimmy Tupou, Tom Sanders and wider training group members Richie Mo’unga, George Bridge and David Havili.
Crusaders Knights Head Coach Jason Holland said the first hit out of the season is always a good test of where the team is at and where the training focus needs to go.
“We had a successful camp and trial last weekend and we were really impressed with the talent in this group. It is a hard ask for these players to come together as a team at such short notice, especially when we do not know from week to week which Crusaders players we’ll have joining the group, however we see that as a positive challenge and we believe the boys will step up to it,” Holland said.
“There are some exciting young players in this group who will be able to use these games as an opportunity to show their worth and potentially progress their careers. We are also fortunate to have such established talent from the Crusaders squad joining the team.”
The Crusaders Knights and Highlanders Development team will kick off at 1pm tomorrow at Pleasant Point Rugby Club.
