Crusaders loose forward Pete Samu released by New Zealand Rugby
New Zealand Rugby has agreed to release Crusaders loose forward to be available for his country of birth after reaching an agreement with Rugby Australia.
Chris Lendrum, NZR Head of Professional Rugby, said the two national unions reached an agreement late yesterday, following a request from Rugby Australia last week.
“We are pleased to have resolved this matter and can confirm that Pete is free to assemble with the Australian team.
“Both Unions have also reached an agreement that will allow Pete to exit his current contract with the Tasman Mako, where he has played for the past four seasons.
“Tasman Rugby Union have given their blessing for Pete to pursue his international rugby aspirations, and will now have certainty ahead of their Mitre 10 Cup season.”
Given the terms of the agreement are employment matters, New Zealand Rugby will not be commenting any further
