The Southern Kings faced 7 time Super Rugby champions Crusaders in their first tour match at the AMI Stadium in Christchurch this morning.

The visitors took an early ten point lead after an eight minute penalty kick by Louis Fouche followed by a try from winger Luzuko Vulindlu, Fouche added the conversion as the Southern Kings were up 10 – 0 after thirteen minutes.

Crusaders struck back with four tries, which included two from right wing Nemani Nadolo, Richard Mo’unga converted three of the tries as they took a 29 – 10 lead.

Crusaders went into the half time break with a nineteen point lead (29 – 10) after both kickers missed a penalty just before the break.

Crusaders took a 43 – 10 lead ten minutes into the second half, as Mo’unga converted his own try and Ben Volavola added the extra after Mithell Drummond scored try number six for the home side.

Southern Kings replacement hooker, Edgar Marutlulle scored his team’s second try after a good build up from the visitors inside the Crusaders’ half, Fouche added the extras as the Kings trailed 43 – 17 at the end of the third quarter.

Crusaders secured their bonus point as they scored try number seven taking the score to 50 – 17 with twenty minutes left.

Hard working flanker, Chris Cloete scored try number three for the Southern Kings, Fouche added the conversion to take the score to 24 – 50.

Pete Samu scored his team’s eight and final try as time ran out on the clock, Volavola added another two points as the final score ended 57 – 24.
