Day5 Craven Week 2010
The 5th and final day of Craven Week 2010 ended on yet another high, with some big clashes and a main match that did not disappoint. The final match was a re-match of last year’s main match between Free State and Western Province.
Free State avenged last year’s 19-17 loss with a 42-21 win, spearheaded by fly-half Johan Goosen and much better discipline than their previous two matches. Goosen scored 22 of the Free State’s points in yet another classy performance.
Free State defended most of the first half but when they did get ball they made the most of their opportunities and scored three tries to the WP’s one. Free State led 22-11 at half-time.
The second half was just as exciting with both teams throwing the ball wide. There was also fierce contesting on the ground by both teams’ loose forwards. In the end little mistakes cost Western Province as they lost continuity and focus. Free State remained cool, calm and collected and scored every time they made their way into the WP’s 22. Final score 42-21.
