DHL Stormers deliver at Loftus
The DHL Stormers put in a great team effort to hand the Vodacom Bulls their second succesive defeat at Loftus Versfeld in the 2011 Super Rugby tournament. The final score was 13-23 in the favour of the boys from Cape Town.
The Stormers took the lead early in the first half through a Peter Grant penalty and stayed in front until the final whistle with Grant dictating play with his precision kicks. Grant added another three penalties before the break while Morne Steyn added a penalty and then a conversion when the Bulls scored a try through Bjorn Basson shortly before half time. Bryan Habana failed to secure a chip kick from Basson and that was all Basson needed to score another try in blue. With the score 10-12 at the break the Bulls would have thought they could still win this.
Habana vindicated himself in the second half when he snatched a ball from right under Bjorn Basson’s nose to dive over and put the game out of reach for the Stormers with Grant adding another two penalties before the try.
The Stormers were also the more disciplined side, conceding far less penalties than the Bulls did.
