DHL Stormers take the lead with 2018 jersey
The DHL Stormers have taken another bold step into the future with the launch of the 2018 home and away jersey.
The new home jersey, featuring royal blue and white hoops with red trim, will be available in all major retailers and the official online shop (stormersshop.co.za) from Saturday, December 9, whilst the charcoal away jersey will be available from mid-January 2018.
The jerseys are manufactured in Cape Town by Genuine Connection – the same company that has been making the DHL Stormers kit for the last 17 years, since 2000.
Western Province Rugby Group CEO, Paul Zacks, said that the 2018 jersey signals an exciting new era for the DHL Stormers.
“Western Province Rugby and the DHL Stormers have always been leaders in the way we do things and once again the brand has been innovative and taken the lead by manufacturing our own jersey.
“We felt it was important to challenge the norm, be innovative in our approach and try something different,” he said.
Zacks explained that there has been no compromise in the quality of the jersey, with the design staying true to the proud traditions whilst forging a new path ahead.
“We are very proud of the fact that the jersey is locally manufactured, it is made by a factory in Cape Town, which is the same factory that has been making the DHL Stormers jersey for the past 17 years.
“The jersey contains the latest technology, fabrics and design elements, so in that way we have ensured that the quality is in no way sacrificed.
“We consciously made a decision to differentiate this jersey from any of the jerseys from the past, however we have stuck to our tradition and history by bringing back the royal blue colour, incorporating the blue and white hoops and we have brought in a little more red which represents the Western Province Rugby Disa.
“Retailers have really embraced the new jersey and we are very happy that our sponsors have supported the initiative and they are really proud to get behind the jersey,” Zacks added.
DHL Stormers captain Siya Kolisi said that the players are looking forward to seeing the DHL Newlands Faithful embrace the new jersey, with the passion they are renowned for.
“It is always an honour for me to put on the DHL Stormers jersey and for the DHL Newlands Faithful it is something different, something new,” he said.
President of the Western Province Rugby Football Union (WPRFU), Mr Thelo Wakefield, said that the 2018 DHL Stormers jersey gives The Faithful a chance to show their unrivalled passion for their team.
“I am looking forward to seeing DHL Newlands full of these jerseys as The Faithful turn out in their numbers to stand together with the DHL Stormers,” he said.
