DHL Western Province vs Steval Pumas Match Report
Drakenstein Correctional Services, Franschoek
18 July, 2015
Final Score 06 – 19
The Steval Pumas had a great start to their Absa Currie Cup campaign with a 06 – 19 win over the DHL Western Province in their first warm-up match in Franschoek.
According to the head coach, MJ Mentz, his team was eager to play their first game after a long pre-season training period. “We are very happy with the progress of the team. The players used their opportunities well. Although our defence was brilliant and we prevented the Province scoring tries, we still have work to do on our attacking play from positions nine and ten. We however have two days to work on this before our last warm-up match against the Boland Cavaliers on Wednesday.”
Players who impressed the coaching staff at the DHL Western Province match were Rosko Specman, JW Bell, Jaco Bouwer and Jason-Collin Fraser.
Mentz also announced the 26-man team to play in Wednesday’s match against the Boland Cavaliers in Wellington. Corné Fourie’s inclusion is uncertain due to a calve injury and Sabelo Nhlapo is on standby to start with Khwezi Mona on standby to be on the bench.
