There are just two forced changes to the DHL Western Province U21 team to face Eastern Province U21, in Port Elizabeth, on Friday.

Both changes come in the loose trio, with Christo van der Merwe taking the place of the injured Jaco Coetzee at No.8, whilst Mitchell Carstens starts at blindside flank, with Jacques Vermeulen having been called up to the senior DHL Western Province Currie Cup team.

The only changes to the replacements bench see prop Daniel Maree and centre Heinrich Buhr join the match-day squad for the match at Framesby High School, which kicks off at 15h00 on Friday.

DHL Western Province U21 coach Jerome Paarwater said that it was important to maintain as much continuity in selection as possible, as they look to build on their victory against Cell C Sharks U21, at DHL Newlands, last week.

“We were happy with the result last week, but we know that our performance can improve considerably, so hopefully we are able to make a step up in Port Elizabeth.

“We have managed to keep most of the combinations together, so we will be looking for some progression in our game.

“It is great that we have won both of our games at home this season, but this team has got to show that they can win on the road as well, so that will be the challenge for us on Friday,” he said.

DHL Western Province U21: 15 Grant Hermanus, 14 Sibahle Maxwane, 13 Eduaan Keyter, 12 Ryan Oosthuizen, 11 Edwill van der Merwe, 10 Brandon Thomson, 9 Herschel Jantjies, 8 Christo van der Merwe, 7 Mitchell Carstens, 6 Luke Stringer (captain), 5 David Ribbans, 4 Eduard Zandberg, 3 Frans van Wyk, 2 Percy Mngadi, 1 Kyle Whyte.
