Scotland U18 scrum-half Jamie Dobie has become the latest new arrival at Scotstoun after agreeing terms on his first professional contract with Glasgow Warriors, subject to medical.

The 17-year-old has signed a deal that will keep him at Scotstoun until at least the summer of 2021, having impressed playing for his country and Merchiston Castle School in Edinburgh.

Born in Inverness, Dobie was part of the Merchiston side that claimed victory in December’s U18 Schools Cup Final at BT Murrayfield, marshalling his side to a sixth triumph in the last decade.

Dobie, who has been a Fosroc Academy supported player, has also captained Scotland U18s this year, scoring a try in the defeat to England in March.

The scrum-half was named in the 31-man squad named by Head Coach Ross Miller for the U18s Six Nations Festival earlier this month and featured in all three games, including the win over Ireland. He has also represented Scotland at U16 level.

Speaking to glasgowwarriors.org, Jamie Dobie, said: “‘I’m delighted to be making the step and joining Glasgow Warriors for the next two seasons.

“This is a real opportunity for me to develop and learn from some of the best players in the country and bring my own game on in a new environment.

“It will be a huge test, but one I am massively looking forward to.”

Speaking to glasgowwarriors.org, Head Coach Dave Rennie, said: “It’s uncommon for a player to be signed straight from school, but Jamie is one of the most exciting young talents in the country and we believe he’s ready to thrive in a professional environment.

“He’s an impressive man and has the potential to become the complete scrum-half.

“He’ll learn a lot from the three nines already at the club and we’re rapt to have him on board.”
