DOGGED WARATAHS LOOK FORWARD
Michael Cheika and the Waratahs focus is solely on the next game, a derby with the Force, after scraping home in Canberra.
A slim 13-10 win over the Brumbies in Canberra was the Waratahs’ first success on their rivals’ patch in four years.
After winning the 2014 champions are now just a point behind the Brumbies in the Australian Conference with a game in hand.
Cheika, whilst understandably proud of his team, however underlined the need to move on and prepare for the visit to Perth next weekend.
“If you let yourself think like that you’ll get on the plane and go to Perth and you’ll get slammed,” Cheika told Rugby Heaven.
“You’ve just got to appreciate the game for what it is and get on to the next thing. Try to take the good bits from it and improve on the other bits.
“We’re not looking to ignite or go on some crazy run like what happened last year. This year we’ve got to earn it more, earn it through hard work and a bit of dog sometimes, hang in there.
“It hasn’t been flowing all the time for us, but to be a good team, we have to learn how to get past those moments when it isn’t going right, to hang in there.
“I was really proud, this is a very, very difficult venue to win at and things weren’t going our way, and we just hung in there. Those types of things make me quite proud.”
