Eben Etzebeth to play in a highly innovative new Canterbury boot
Canterbury has, since 1904, produced many legends of the game by understanding the needs and requirements of each individual rugby player, including legends like Josh Cronfeld , Zinzan Brook, Stephan Larkam and South Africa’s very own Victor Matfield and Bryan Habana.
Now, as a new era dawns, two great brands come together with Canterbury adding rising world star Eben Etzebeth (21 years old) to its impressive player stable, both brands mirroring their identities of strength, unmatched technical standards and unrivalled quality.
Eben, a lock who has 13 Stormers caps and 11 Springbok caps to his name, will now play in a highly innovative new Canterbury boot range which has been developed with all the technical aspects and requirements of the modern day athlete in mind.
Says Eben: “I am honoured to partner with an internationally recognised brand. The boot is a great fit! Looking forward to exciting times ahead with Canterbury.”
ABOUT THE BOOT
Canterbury, in conjunction with Eben, has developed the ultimate forward specific boot. Forwards now benefit from the latest technology and innovation in both 8 stud and 6 stud boots, as well as an improved last, resulting in better comfort and fit.
Most noteworthy in this case is that the Forward Boots have an outsole which has been specifically designed to provide greater traction, grip, power and stability.
Emphasis has also been placed on aesthetics, as Canterbury has taken steps to modernize this new and improved boot range which has, in turn, seen a sales increase of 35- 40% year on year, proving that an eye-catching boot sells.
ABOUT EBEN ETZEBETH
Eben Etzebeth played for the South African Under-20 team and the University of Cape Town in the 2011 Varsity Cup, but made a massive impression when making his Vodacom Super Rugby debut for the Stormers in 2012.
This big and abrasive lock, in the mould of Bakkies Botha, made his first Test appearance against England in June 2012 and has been a Springbok star in his first season of Test rugby. He likes it when the going gets tough and a big future is predicted for the young man from Cape Town, who played Test and Vodacom Super Rugby before getting his first taste of Absa Currie Cup action late in 2012, from which point he has been hailed the world’s most impressive young rugby player.
