Emirates Lions Team vs Cell C Sharks, 50th cap for Van Rooyen
50th cap for Van Rooyen
Jacques van Rooyen will run out in his 50th Vodacom Super Rugby game when the Emirates Lions host the Cell C Sharks at Emirates Airline Park on Saturday at 17:15.
Van Rooyen was invited to train with the Lions in 2012 after catching the eye while in action for a club team in Pretoria and has since cemented his place in the squad, even captaining the side during the Currie Cup in 2017.
The Emirates Lions welcomed back their Blitzbok Kwagga Smith who will don the number six jumper in the absence of the injured Jaco Kriel.
Youngster Aphiwe Dyantyi gets his first taste of Super Rugby at wing, filling the big shoes of injured wing Courtnall Skosan while Sylvian Mahuza steps up to the plate at right wing.
Another youngster, Hacjivah Dayimani, has been included on the bench and loan player Marnus Schoeman (Pumas) will also warm the bench. Should they take the field, both will make their Super Rugby debut for the Emirates Lions.
The side will be led by the experienced Warren Whiteley.
