The EP Kings failed to cross the final hurdle when they lost 28-46 in front of a capacity crowd at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth and failed to earn promotion into the ABSA Currie Cup Premier Division.

Both teams started with clean sheets after the previous week’s match in Witbank was drawn 36-36 and this meant that the winner tonight will claim their rightful spot in the Premier Division.

The EP Kings started really well and had a well deserved 20-15 lead at halftime but a massive second half performance from the Pumas – led by a rampant scrum – was a bridge too far for the Kings and they will now have to wait another year before they get another chance at promotion.

The Pumas will be happy with the character showed by the team and especially their kicker on the night Carl Bezuidenhout who took over from Elgar Watts.

This result means the Currie Cup stays exactly as is after the SWD Eagles also failed to gain promotion earlier today.
