The EP Kings remained top of the Absa Under-19 Provincial Competition’s A-Division this weekend, despite having a bye, while DHL Western Province moved past the Vodacom Blue Bulls in second spot following an impressive 53-20 win over the Pretoria side in Cape Town on Friday.

On Saturday, the Toyota Free State scored a good win in Bloemfontein, beating the dangerous Leopards 61-36 and the Xerox Golden Lions kept the Cell C Sharks winless with a 28-22 win in Johannesburg.

In the B-Division, the Steval Pumas are still undefeated. They won 27-21 against Limpopo Blue Bulls in a tight affair in Polokwane, but big results were scored elsewhere. ORC Griquas won 83-10 against Border and Boland won 62-14 against SWD. The Down Touch Griffons kept up their good form by beating Hino Valke 31-19, to stay in second place on the log.

The logs of both A and B Divisions are available here.

Run of play summary of each match is available by clicking on the match results.

A-Division:

Toyota Free State 61 (35), Leopards 36 (10).

Four tries in the opening 30 minutes of the match laid the foundation for the Free State in this win in Bloemfontein. Two of those tries were scored despite having a player in the sin-bin, confirming the dominance they had over the Leopards.

The Potchefstroom side came back well in the second half, scoring three tries, but was never a threat to the in-form home side.

Two tries by S’busiso Nkosi and a conversion and penalty by Tristan Tedder had the visiting Cell C Sharks in a good position to earn their first win of the competition, but a determined second half by the Xerox Golden Lions thwarted that aim. The home side left if fairly late though, with replacement centre Arno Maree only scoring the decisive try nine minutes from the end of the match.

Two converted tries and a penalty in the opening ten minutes saw the DHL Western Province race to a 17-0 lead and tried as they may, the visiting Vodacom Blue Bulls never recovered from that blitzkrieg. The home side in fact, stepped up the tempo in the second half and not only outplayed the visitors, but also moved past them into second place on the log.
