EP Kings team announced against the Leopards
The EP Kings Rugby team that will take on the Leopards in Potchefstroom on Friday has been announced, with minimal changes to the squad that beat the Griffons 63 points to seven last week.
“Darron Nell returns to take up the captain’s role, with Tiger Mangweni returning to vice captain,” said Currie Cup Head Coach, David Maidza.
“The backs remain unchanged, to ensure continuity and build on what we accomplished during the Griffons game,” said Maidza.
Maidza said aside from Nell, Cornell du Preez would also return to his starting position at eighth man, after missing out last week’s game. Tim Agaba moves to openside Flank, while Devin Oosthuizen would move to Blindside Flank.
Stefan Willemse moved to the bench, while Boetie Britz came onto the bench in place of Albie de Swardt, who was being rested.
“Of course we were very happy with the result against the Griffons, but there are always areas we can improve on and we will be looking to improve on some of those aspects in this game,” said Maidza.
Maidza said he was particularly impressed with the attacking elements from last week’s game, but was concerned that ball control could have been better.
“We need to keep focusing on the fundamentals, and ensure that we improve on this every week,” he said.
Maidza said he was expecting a tough game against the Leopards, who were particularly strong up front.
“We need to take the game to the next level and ensure that we build on the momentum from the last game. We need to step up if we wish to take part in the playoffs,” he said.
Nell also lauded the Leopards forwards, saying the team was expecting quite a physical encounter on Friday.
“The Leopards have a great pack, with some big players, so we’re expecting quite a physical game, which is going to be a nice challenge for us,” he said.
