EP SCHOOLS RUGBY WRAP FOR AUGUST 8
DF Malherbe ensured a successful finish to their 60th anniversary during a weekend of sport against Despatch at DFM in Port Elizabeth on Saturday, winning the first team rugby clash 12-7 in a close encounter.
With Despatch doing most of the attacking in the first half, they took the lead before DFM replied with a converted try to make it 7-7 at the break.
The match continued to be evenly contested until the final 10 minutes when DFM crossed for what turned out to be the winning try.
KwaZulu-Natal side Glenwood continued their dominance in their annual match with Framesby, winning 25-19 for their fifth victory in six clashes since 2011.
The first half was rather tame as the side changed at 7-7, but there was more enterprising play in the second half as each side crossed for two further tries. Glenwood held the edge through the boot of flyhalf Jerome Bossar, who kicked two penalties and two conversions to make the difference.
Nico Malan underlined their ability with a narrow 17-14 win over Brandwag in Humansdorp, while St Andrew’s, in their final game of the season, proved too strong for Muir, winning 40-24.
The results were: St Andrew’s bt Muir College 40-24, Nico Malan bt Brandwag 17-14, Glenwood bt Framesby 25-19, Selborne bt Dale 44-13, DF Malherbe bt Despatch 12-7, Westering bt Alexander Road 17-15, Cambridge bt Stirling 18-8, CilliĆ© bt Itembelihle-Linkside 29-17, Hudson Park bt Grens 31-12.
