Mavaleliso, 14, who hails from Port Elizabeth and who had secured a rugby scholarship at the Durban High School, died in Durban over the weekend, after apparently contracting meningitis.
His illness became apparent during a match between Durban High School U15A and Hoerskool Transvalia from Gauteng on Thursday last week, at a festival hosted by Glenwood High School in Durban.
Interim CEO, Charl Crous, said the union sent their condolences to Mavaleliso’s family and friends.
“On behalf of the Eastern Province Rugby Union we wish to send our condolences to the family and friends of Mandodandile.”
“It is never easy losing a loved one and even harder to lose someone so young and talented,” he said.
