#EPRugby MAYORAL CUP RESULTS AND FIXTURES
SPRING Rose will be looking to build on a good start to the Mayoral Cup rugby competition when they take on Uitenhage rivals Progress at the New Brighton Oval on Saturday (September 12).
Following the withdrawal of Park and PE SAPS, this season’s Cup will be contested by eight teams split into two sections. Spring Rose have quickly taken the inside track in Pool A with last week’s win over Harlequins, leaving Progress, Suburban and Quins in pursuit.
Similarly, Gardens have leapt ahead in Pool B after defeating Windvogel 40-15, with African Bombers and Star of Hope the other sides hoping to make an impact.
Bombers endured a woeful Grand Challenge season and the Mayoral Cup provides them with a chance at redemption. They can start by targeting victory over Windvogel on Saturday, but they will know they must perform far more effectively than they have done on most occasions this year to have a chance against the home team.
The teams will compete within their pools, with the top two in each group qualifying for the semifinals on October 17. The final will be played two weeks later, on October 31.
