Evans to captain Scarlets against Southern Kings
Wayne Pivac has named his side to take on Southern Kings at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Sunday with scrum half Jonathan Evans named as captain.
25-year-old Evans will lead the side in their first of two South African clashes with the Scarlets looking to further cement their place at the top of Conference B.
The Scarlets have named an exciting and experienced side to take on the Southern Kings at their home ground despite being without fifteen international players.
Josh Macleod is the only change to the pack the started against Benetton Rugby in the Guinness PRO14 a few weeks ago with the 21-year-old homegrown talent replacing John Barclay, who is on international duty with his native Scotland.
Fellow backrower Will Boyde will make his 50th appearance for the region as he takes to the field on Sunday.
Pivac has made three changes to the backline that took on Benetton with Paul Asquith moving from the wing to inside centre to link up with former Wales Under 20s captain Steff Hughes with 19-year-old Ioan Hughes coming in on the wing.
Looking ahead to the clash Wayne Pivac said; “It’s going to be a big challenge for us with a younger side traveling out there. There is an opportunity for some players who’ve been watching a lot of rugby from the sidelines to get involved and that’s certainly a good thing for the development of the squad.
“We’ve got to make sure that we play well in the first game and hopefully get a win against the Kings and a result against the Cheetahs would be a bonus. For us our eyes are firmly fixed on the Kings first up.”
