Fanatic fans give Boks #HomeGroundAdvantage
05 AUGUST 2015 – Giving the Springboks #HomeGroundAdvantage requires some fanatic fans and that is exactly what Matthew van der Merwe and his two mates from Fourways Johannesburg will bring to the party.
Van der Merwe is the latest Castle Lager Superfan to get his photo onto the back of the official Springboks jersey in the Castle Lager #HomeGroundAdvantage competition.
“I didn’t expect to win at all and it came as quite a shock, we are all huge rugby fanatics and we all played rugby at school,” Van der Merwe said.
When Van der Merwe had to decide on which mates to pick to share in the awesome prize, he decided on two friends that would back the Boks all the way.
“My two mates are Steven Taverner and Warren Dickerson and they are my two closest mates, they are as fanatical about rugby and the Springboks as I am,” Van der Merwe said.
“I thought it would be really cool to share this with them, obviously you need to have rugby loving supporters with you on the back of the Bok jersey, so I figured they would be the best.”
Castle Lager are rewarding Superfans that back the Boks and their two mates with the opportunity to get their faces on the back of the official Springbok jersey.
While we all rally behind the Boks, Superfans get to reward their mates for always having their backs.
It is not always moonshine and roses between the mates with Van der Merwe and Taverner taking their provincial rivalry somewhat seriously.
“Unfortunately we don’t watch Currie Cup or Super Rugby together because my mate Steven is a Province supporter and I am a Blue Bulls supporter,” he said.
However, when the Springboks take on the world the duo bury the hatchet and rally behind the team with a cold Castle Lager.
There is no doubt who their favourite player is as they would prefer a spot on the back of the Number-4 jersey.
“Who is not an Eben Etzebeth fan? He is a beast and you can see he gives his all every game and he plays his heart out for his county which makes us flipping proud,” Van der Merwe said.
What does he reckon the Springboks’ chances are of winning a record third Rugby World Cup title?
“I think we have a good chance, we play pretty good knockout rugby but I know we are going to have a tough task,” he said.
“If we win our group we should meet Australia in the quarterfinal and if we win that we will probably get New Zealand in the semi-final.”
Thanks to Castle Lager you can back the Boks in an extraordinary manner and have the jersey to prove it!
