Fenton re-signs with Edinburgh until 2020
Edinburgh have continued to strengthen their squad ahead of next season with the re-signing of hooker Cameron Fenton on a one-year extension.
Fenton, 23 – who is in his second season with the club – has so far made one appearance this current campaign after returning from injury in January and today puts pen-to-paper on a deal that will see him remain in the capital until at least 2020.
On extending his stay at the club, Fenton, said: “I’m delighted to re-sign with Edinburgh for a further year. It’s a really exciting team to be a part of and I can’t wait to see what we can achieve moving forward.
Head Coach Richard Cockerill, added: “Cammy is a young, determined player with bags of potential. He’s come back really strongly from injury this season and will no doubt continue to improve at his position as the club moves in to the new campaign.”
Having joined the club on trial at the start of the 2017/18 season, Fenton – who graduated from the Fosroc Scottish Rugby Academy – was signed on a one-year deal after impressing in pre-season.
The versatile Strathallan School player – who enjoyed club spells at both Howe of Fife and Stirling County – provided an essential spark from the bench during the 2017/18 season, while the hooker’s tries against Southern Kings and Dragons were vital in securing bonus-point victories en route to Edinburgh’s first-ever Guinness PRO14 Final Series berth.
After making 10 appearances in first season with the club, Fenton signed a further one-year contract extension in February 2018 before suffering a hip injury that has kept the hooker out of a large portion of the current campaign.
Fenton made a scoring return from injury in January, grabbing his side’s sixth try in the 38-0 bonus-point victory over Southern Kings at BT Murrayfield.
