FINALS OF TOWNSHIP JUNIOR RUGBY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME
AN EASTERN Province junior rugby programme which has been held over 10 weeks across 10 zones in the Nelson Mandela Bay metro will culminate with the finals to be played at the Wolfson Stadium on Saturday (August 15), starting at 09.00.
Organised by EP Rugby in conjunction with the Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, the objective of the Township Junior Rugby Development Programme (TJRDP) is to revive rugby in the townships of Nelson Mandela Bay through increased participation in various age-groups.
As part of the initiative, a number of schools were identified to become involved in capacity building and skills transfer processes in the development of the programme.
The children now have a chance to display their skills at the Wolfson Stadium on Saturday when the finals of the U12, U13, U15 and U16 age-groups will be played.
Following the league programme, the quarterfinals and semifinals have been played in recent weeks, and now eight teams are in the running for the top spot.
The zones which competed in the competition were: Rosedale-Langa, KwaNobuhle-Despatch, KwaDwesi-KwaMagxaki, Zwide-Veeplaas, Kwazakhele, New Brighton, Bethelsdorp, Korsten-Schauderville, Walmer, Motherwell.
The finals fixtures are:
09.00, U12: Kwazakhele v Korsten-Schauderville; 10.00, U13: Rosedale-Langa v Korsten-Schauderville; 11.00, U15: Korsten-Schauderville v Rosedale-Langa; 12.00, U16: Kwazakhele v Rosedale-Langa.
