FORCE TO HOST EIGHT HOME MATCHES IN 2017
The 2017 Super Rugby tournament kicks-off on Thursday, 23 February with the Melbourne Rebels hosting the Auckland based Blues at AAMI Park in Melbourne. The Thursday night kick-off is a first for Super Rugby and is followed a week later by another Thursday night match between the Western Force and the Queensland Reds in Perth at nib Stadium.
The Western Force will kick-off its season at Allianz Stadium in Round One against the Waratahs on Saturday, 25 February. The following week the Force return for their first ever Thursday night clash at the ‘Force Field’ nib Stadium against the Queensland Reds in the first of eight home games for the season.
The Force then have a number of blockbuster home games, including the Chiefs in Round Nine, who return to Perth for the first time since the epic clash of 2014 where the Force came away three-point victors. The very next round we take on the 2016 Grand Finalists the Lions, as well as the 2015 Champions the Highlanders in Round 13 and then two weeks later the defending Super Rugby Champions the Hurricanes.
Concluding the regular season the Western Australians will play host to the Rebels and the Waratahs in two must-watch Australian derbies.
The away fixtures will be highlighted with two tough clashes across the ditch against the Crusaders and the Blues, as well as a historic trip to Buenos Aires when we take on competition newcomers the Jaguares.
Western Force Head Coach Dave Wessels says the club embraces the draw and can’t wait for Round One of the 2017 season.
“It’s an exciting time for the competition and us as a club. We can’t wait to get the season underway and having eight games in front of our loyal Sea of Blue is just fantastic.
“In a five-nation tournament travel comes with the territory and we have to see travel as a challenge that we relish not as an obstacle. We are excited to be playing all around the world.”
Western Force General Manager Mark Sinderberry says he hopes to see the Sea of Blue in full force next season.
“The 2017 draw has provided us with a really entertaining home schedule with three Australian derbies, clashes against both of last season’s Grand Finalists, a maiden Thursday night match and a return to family-friendly Sunday afternoon rugby.
“With such a large number of exciting home matches, which are sure to be fantastic rugby spectacles, now more than ever we need the support of our loyal fan base.”
