Former EP President George Davids passes away
The South African Rugby Union (SARU) was saddened with the passing of former Eastern Province president Mr George Davids from a long illness in Port Elizabeth on Monday.
Mr Davids was president of the EP Rugby Union for more than a decade between 1994 and 2004. He was born and bred in Port Elizabeth and apart from playing for the Wallabies club earlier in his rugby career, he came through the ranks as administrator and was later also the club’s chairman.
“We were very saddened to hear of George’s passing,” said SARU president, Mr Oregan Hoskins.
“He’s been a stalwart of rugby in the Eastern Cape and has served the game in South Africa unselfishly for many years. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones.”
