FRANS STEYN’S SEASON IS OVER
Sharks back Francois Steyn has been handed a major injury setback which will end his Super Rugby season.
The World Cup winner tore his pectoral muscle in the Sharks’ last outing against the Reds in Brisbane.
Sharks head coach Gary Gold confirmed that Steyn and Stephan Lewies, who has torn his patella tendon, will both be set for surgery and put on the long-term injury list.
The news is just the latest blow in a rough season for the Sharks, who have won only five of their 14 matches in 2015.
“Unfortunately it looks like they’re both going to be out with some long term injuries,” Gold told reporters.
“Stephan has ruptured his patella tendon, and Fransie has torn his pectoral muscle. It looks like both will need surgery so that is very disappointing for us.”
