The Golden Lions Rugby Union held their annual Players Award Ceremony on Wednesday, 24 October 2012 where the players were acknowledged for their contribution to the Union throughout 2012.

Lionel Mapoe was the big winner of the night, taking home the titles of both Backline Player of the Year and the Lions Man (Players Player of the Year) award. Franco van der Merwe was awarded Forward Player of the Year, while JC Janse van Rensburg was named Player of the Year

The winners of the MTN Lions’ 2012 awards are:

U-19 Backline Player of the Year – Harold Vorster

U-19 Forward Player of the Year – Dirk Kotze

U-19 Player of the Year – Albertus Smith

U-21 Backline Player of the Year – Robert de Bruyn

U-21 Forward Player of the Year – Etienne Oosthuizen

U-21 Player of the Year – Stephan de Wit

Referee’s Award – Rashivenge Fhatuweni

Senior Backline Player of the Year – Lionel Mapoe

Senior Forward Player of the Year – Franco van der Merwe

Senior Lions Man (Players Player) of the Year – Lionel Mapoe

Senior Lions Man – JC Janse van Rensburg
