Hurricanes Development Charity Match Tomorrow to raise funds for paralysed player
The Hurricanes Development team will host the Northern Suburbs, an Australian club team, for a charity match tomorrow to help raise funds for Seti Tafua.
Wellingtonian Tafua was left paralysed in June last year, after suffering a spinal injury during a match whilst playing with the Northern Suburbs club. Now his team are in Wellington preparing for a two match campaign against the Hurricanes Development tomorrow and Poneke this Saturday.
Entry to the Hurricanes match at Rugby League Park will be a gold coin donation, with all proceeds going to the Seti Tafua Appeal. Kick-off is scheduled for 2pm tomorrow.
The Hurricanes Development side have a ten day break in their Pacific Rugby Cup campaign so was perfecting timing heading into their final games against the Fiji Warriors and Junior Japan. The team played Tonga A on Monday night posting a convincing 68-3 win at the Hutt Rec.
Tomorrow’s match will see Jack Lam return for his first match for the Hurricanes since his ACL reconstruction last year. A number of Wellington based players will also join the side to help raise money for the former Wellington club player, Tafua.
Wellington referee, Colin Te Pohe, will also get involved this weekend as he will be the assistant referee for Saturday’s match. Te Pohe, a former Wellington club player himself, broke his neck during a game, but is now refereeing despite originally having little chances of ever returning to the game.
