The St.George Queensland Reds have secured the signature of one of Australian Rugby’s most exciting prospects Isaac Lucas on a new four-year contract extension.

The promising playmaker will remain at Ballymore through 2023 until the next Rugby World Cup in France.

Lucas is the eleventh player to have re-signed a long-term deal with the Reds following recent announcements from Izack Rodda (2023), Taniela Tupou (2023), Tate McDermott (2023), Fraser McReight (2023), Angus Blyth (2023), Alex Mafi (2022), Harry Wilson (2023), Harry Hoopert (2022), Hamish Stewart (2022) and Jordan Petaia (2022).

It also follows Liam Wright, Angus Scott-Young, Bryce Hegarty, Brandon Paenga-Amosa, Feao Fotuaika and Chris Feauai-Sautia all re-committing with Queensland for next season and beyond.

The 20-year-old enjoyed a breakout year for both his state and country in 2019 as he embarks on his second season of Super Rugby with the Reds.

Reds utility back Isaac Lucas said: “I’m very grateful for the opportunity to spend another four years at Queensland with guys I have grown up playing with.

“Queensland means everything to me. I’ve lived in Queensland my whole life and have supported the Reds for as long as I can remember.

“I believe we are building something special and I can’t wait to be a part of it and rip in,” said Lucas.

Reds head coach Brad Thorn said: “We’re excited to have Isaac Lucas here at Queensland for the next four years.

“Isaac comes from an amazing Queensland pedigree. He’s one of four brothers who have all played Rugby at the elite level in either Super Rugby or for Australian Sevens.

“He’s a natural ballplayer with plenty of talent who’s come through the Queensland system.

“We saw glimpses this year of what Isaac can do. He was rewarded for his hard work with his Queensland debut in our opening game against the Highlanders in Dunedin.

“We look forward to seeing his continued development at Queensland,” said Thorn.

The youngest of four brothers who all play Rugby, Isaac is a product of the Queensland pathway having represented his state and country at both Schoolboys and U20s level.

Lucas impressed Reds coaching staff with his natural playmaking skills and was handed his Queensland debut in the Reds’ opening game of the 2019 Super Rugby season against the Highlanders in Dunedin.

He went on to play eight matches for Queensland this year before again being selected in the Junior Wallabies squad for the 2019 World Rugby U20s Championships in Argentina, where they finished runners-up to France in the final.

The Sunnybank star also made his National Rugby Championship (NRC) debut in 2019 for Brisbane City and has since played every match this season ahead of preparing for tomorrow’s Round 7 battle against the Melbourne Rising at Easts Rugby Club.
