Edinburgh Rugby player, Izak van der Westhuizen, who also played for the Free State Cheetahs, will be joining the EP Kings in June.
EP Rugby CEO, Charl Crous said the 28-year-old lock out of Kimberly, had signed a three year deal with the Kings.

After following up promising showings in the Springboks U18 Academy, van der Westhuizen was called up to the Cheetah’s U19 and U21 sides before progressing to the senior squad at the age of 24, with a Super Rugby debut against the Brumbies in 2010.

A groin injury meant he played only a handful of Super Rugby games during the 2011 season, but he returned to become a mainstay in the Cheetahs pack, starting all 12 of the Cheetahs matches in 2012.

He moved to Scotland at the end of the 2012 season and has since established himself as a regular in Edinburgh’s match-day squads, and started the 2013/14 season in impressive form.

Van der Westhuizen is very well known for his great lineout and restart abilities and was named man of the match in Edinburgh Rugby’s last match.

“I am very excited about the new challenge ahead for myself and my family. In the last Super Rugby season I gained a lot of respect for the Kings and the way they are doing things in PE, and hope I can add to that in a positive way,” said Van der Westhuizen.

Van der Westhuizen will be relocating to Nelson Mandela Bay at the end of the Scottish rugby season, with his wife, Bonita, and their daughter.
