Jantjies signs on for more with DHL Stormers
World Cup-winning scrumhalf Herschel Jantjies has signed a two-year contract extension with the DHL Stormers which will keep him at home in the Cape until at least 2024.
Another proud product of the Western Province Rugby youth system, Jantjies first represented DHL Western Province at U16 level while at Paul Roos Gymnasium in Stellenbosch.
Having grown up in Kylemore, Jantjies has supported the DHL Stormers all his life and eventually made his debut for his boyhood team towards the end of the 2018 season.
He made his Springbok debut the following year, making an immediate impact in the national set-up, ending 2019 with a Rugby World Cup winners medal.
For Jantjies the decision to commit another two years to the DHL Stormers while in the prime of his career was an easy one.
“I am very excited about the direction that this team is going and can see us building something special together here.
“This is my home and this has always been my team, so I am looking forward to contributing in any way I can going forward,” he said.
DHL Stormers Head Coach John Dobson said that Jantjies’ story is an inspirational one, which shows the character of the man.
“Herschel has had to work very hard to get where he is today. I have seen him evolve into a world-class player through incredible commitment and passion for this union.
“He is exactly the type of player that we want in our team and we are very excited to see what he can achieve in a DHL Stormers jersey in the years to come,’ he said.
