Jonathan Mokuena returns to Sevens
Former Springbok Sevens captain Jonathan Mokuena has returned to the Sevens fold and has been included in the SA Vipers squad who will be aiming for a third consecutive Singapore Cricket Club Sevens title next weekend.
Springbok Sevens coach, Paul Treu, also included a trio of national Sevens players who just recently recovered from long-term injuries. Kyle Brown, Frankie Horne and Branco du Preez all passed their fitness and conditioning tests with flying colours earlier this week, which allowed Treu to consider them for selection again.
Mokuena was a SA Sevens stalwart before he decided to focus on the 15-man code, where he went on to represent the GWK Griquas in the Absa Currie Cup and the Auto & General Lions in the Vodacom Super 14 competition. The combative number eight made his last appearance for the Springbok Sevens team in 2008 in Scotland.
Other interesting selections are that of Border Bulldogs flyhalf Logan Basson, the younger brother of Springbok wing Bjorn Basson and the promising SWD loose forward Jacques Engelbrecht. The squad leaves for Singapore on Tuesday.
The SA Vipers squad is:
Kyle Brown, Frankie Horne, Lubabalo Mtembu, Jacques Engelbrecht, Jonathan Mokuena, Branco du Preez, Mark Richards, Bernado Botha, Sibusiso Sithole, Howard Noble, Logan Basson, Pieter Engelbrecht.
