The second day of the Kearsney Easter Rugby Festival has some interesting fixtures and dramatic results are again anticipated. After the first day, where two matches ended in tight finishes and were the most exciting games, others showed that they could well be one of the better teams at the festival which has attracted the cream of the country’s rugby-playing schools.

Menlo Park lost by just two points against Westville Boys’ High and they will come up against Selborne College.  In the first game on Thursday, Selborne showed they are a class side, overpowering hosts Kearsney. The Pretoria team will have to pull out all the stops to win this second match.

The other close result was Grey College from Bloemfontein beating HTS Middelburg with a penalty in the final moments of the match. Grey should win comfortably against hosts Kearsney, who will have to improve dramatically from their last game.

HTS Middelburg come up against Glenwood, the latter  who played a good second half to score 36 points against Framesby, after being held to 0-0 at half time. The big Middelburg pack could make it difficult for the local side, although Glenwood would have gained much confidence from their second half performance.

SACS, in their debut match at the festival, surprised Dale College by beating them. Dale did not appear to have the exciting backline players that they have had in the recent past. They have, however, beefed up their pack; so Dale’s second-day match against Westville could be a close encounter. SACS come up against Affies, the latter who have some big mobile forwards which makes them favourites to win this encounter.

The final match on the second day is between Dr EG Jansen and Framesby.  Here the East Rand side should be too strong and physical for the team from Port Elizabeth.

Entry to the festival is R50 per vehicle and R20 for pedestrians, which includes a souvenir brochurewith player statistics and pen photos.  There is ample secure parking available.  Food outlets and a refreshment marquee will ensure spectators are able to fully enjoy the family-friendly event.
