Kenya Cup Match Day 3 Round up
KCB went top of the Kenya Cup log with a 33-3 demolition of bitter rivals Top Fry Nakuru at the KCB Sports Club in Ruaraka.
The bankers opened the scoring through Darwin Mukidza’s penalty before Peter Karia landed an unconverted try off a rolling maul to take the score to 8-0. Mukidza would then convert Oliver Mang’eni’s try for a 15-0 lead at the interval.
Mukidza and Nakuru’s Henry Ayah traded penalties, the scores 18-3 at this point before the bankers landed further tries, first from Nick Ongeri and Collins Wanjala before Mukidza sealed the result with a late try at the corner, this result KCB’s first Kenya Cup win over Nakuru since 2011.
RESOLUTE SARRIES RALLY TO TAME THE LEOS
Hosts Resolution Impala Saracens were forced to dig deep on Kenya Cup match day three, rallying from a 0-12 deficit to post a 24-12 bonus point win over the Strathmore Leos at the Impala Club on Saturday 19 November 2016.
Elkeans Musonye’s converted try saw the Leos, winless in their opening two outings, take a 7-0 lead into the interval and they looked to be coasting when Adrian Opondo added a second try for a 12-0 lead.
The Sarries would be awarded a penalty try, Quinto Ongo converting to bring the score to 12-7 before George Okowa brought them level, landing an unconverted try for a 12-12 score.
Former Kenya U19 international Kevin Ochami would gather Ongo’s raised ball, grounding the ball as the Sarries went ahead for the first time in this match before captain Duncan Ekasi capped the Sarries resurgence, landing the bonus point try with Okowa adding the extras.
The result saw the Sarries stay unbeaten and third on the log after match day three.
CHAMPIONS KABRAS STIFLE MWAMBA IN KAKAMEGA
Kabras Sugar built on a 3-0 halftime lead to post a 20-11 win over Mwamba in Kenya Cup match day three action at the Kakamega Showground.
It was the visitors who started on a high, making early inroads into Kabras territory but unable to turn put points on the board, allowing Kabras to slowly assert themselves.
Twice the sugarmen were denied by Mwamba’s resolute defending, Suli Torudi held up on the Mwamba try line, one of the few highs of a somewhat sedate first half.
Ivan Chilabo would put Kabras ahead, drilling home a penalty. Mwamba’s George Mutuku missing an opportunity to restore parity before the visitors spurned two trying scoring opportunities, let down by handling errors.
Mutuku would restore parity with an early second half penalty, just reward for Kulabu’s huffing and puffing.
Chirabo and Mutuku would trade penalties to tie the scores at 6-6 after 57 minutes before Kabras upped the ante, the inclusion of former Mwamba man Dan Sikuta, Nick Barasa and Edwin Achayo giving them the much-needed impetus against a flailing Mwamba.
Barasa would score the game’s first try, Chirabo converting for a 13-6 score on 62 minutes before Peter Nakarawa finished off Brian Tanga’s move, scoring a converted try at the corner as Kabras went 20-6 up on 69 minutes, before Mwamba got a consolation try at the death through young fullback Bridgen Anditi.
