Kenya Fall To France In Series Opener; Lionesses Reach Cup Semis
The Kenya Lionesses reached the cup semi-final at the Dubai Sevens International Invitational Category with a 29-5 come from behind win over the Tabusoro Angels.
It was the Angels who caught the Lionesses cold, landing an early unconverted try for a 5-0 lead but Celestine Masinde restored parity, received an outrageous reverse pass from Doreen Remour to touch down, Janet Owino adding the extras for a 7-5 lead. Masinde would score on the stroke of half-time for a 12-5 lead.
Janet Okello scored a second-half brace for a 22-5 lead before second half sub Sinaida Aura scored under the posts, Owino converting for the 29-5 full-time score. They play Samurai in the semi-final at 11.00am
Kenya started their HSBC Sevens World Series campaign on a losing note, falling to a 14-24 loss to France in their opening encounter at The Sevens Stadium on Friday morning
Innocent Simiyu’s charges held a 14-0 lead early on courtesy of converted tries from Nelson Oyoo and Willy Ambaka but the French clawed back, Terry Bouhroua touching down before converting Lakafia’s try for a 14-12 score at the break.
Bouhroua would land his brace before converting Valleau’s try to seal the result. Up next for Kenya is a clash against Japan at 11.00am East African Time.
